EXPRESSING AND UNDERSTANDING
This photo series captures the 2020 civil rights protests in direct response to the murders of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Ahmaud Arbery. Focusing on the emotions and expressions of the moment, these protest were displayed to focus on the people who many of the issues discussed during 2020's civil right's movements affected. This was more than a protest, it meant fighting for the rights than African-Americans and other marginalized people deserve. African-Americans deserve the right to self determination just as everyone does. With this, the protests have been an impetus towards enacting systemic change as people see the issues that have plagued African-Americans in this country for years.
All of these photos were taken in downtown Columbia, South Carolina during public protest.
